What role does the topic of sustainability play in your department and your work?

A huge role. With the topic of organisation, our department is also responsible for recording and managing Commerz Real’s CO2 emissions. We carry out a raft of measures in this regard: we have had green electricity contracts for years, we always check investments such as furniture purchases for environmental compatibility, and wherever technology is modernised, we look for energy-saving solutions, such as lighting that has been converted to LED. But we are also pushing this topic forward with our canteen operators. For example, we no longer use single-use packaging, instead of paper cups, we use a deposit return system, and we consciously supplement the menu with vegetarian and vegan dishes and thus lower-emission dishes.

“I am very proud of the conversion of the fleet to purely electric mobility.”
Andreas Götz
Head of Organisation Commercial Real

What sustainable measures are you especially proud of?

I am particularly proud of the fleet conversion to purely electric vehicles. We started the process of installing large-scale charging infrastructure at our two main locations in Wiesbaden and Düsseldorf at a very early stage, i.e. back in 2020. In 2023, the company car policy was then converted to exclusively electric vehicles. Since then, their share has been steadily increasing and is currently around 40 vehicles. With regard to company cars (excluding lease cars), around 30% of the fleet is fully electric and a further 45% is already partially electric as hybrid vehicles. We have already covered one million kilometres in electric mode and will also modernise the other vehicles in the coming years. Once the changeover is complete, approximately 450,000 fewer litres of fuel will be consumed.
