Career Company-wide off-site with good impact

A day that can make a big difference: with shared offsites, our employees gain new impressions, reinforce their sense of belonging – and at the same time do something good for people locally. A look back at the Commerz Real Social Days 2022.
Wiesbaden Social Day
Around 100 employees gathered at the company-wide off-site event on the market square in Wiesbaden. As part of the Commerz Real Social Days, the team set itself the goal of building five houses together with the association Little Home e.V. The houses are small private units made of wood, which the association makes available to people without a permanent residence.
At the start of the campaign, Commerz Real employees divided into ten groups on the site and worked on the construction of the five wooden houses. It was a joint effort – sawing, hammering and painting. The houses will then be furnished and offer a mattress, a shelf, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a camping toilet, a washbasin and a small work surface with cooking facilities.
Each house has a living area of 3.2 square metres – not much, but enough to make a significant difference for those without a permanent residence.

Social Day Düsseldorf
The employees of the Düsseldorf site also came together on the Commerz Real Social Day to get involved in the Little Home project. In the old boiler house on the Böhler site, they welded, sawed, drilled, hammered and painted with great delight. A total of 190 participants worked shoulder to shoulder to complete the five houses together.
One of the participants was Thorsten, a future resident of one of the five newly built Little Homes. He worked hard and painted his own house, which he would soon live in. After completing the work, all participants were able to testify to how Thorsten was able to sign the lease agreement for his Little Home. For him, signing was a first important step to a new life; for the employees, it showed how much good the joint efforts of one day could produce.

Small houses with a big impact
Sven Lüdecke, the founder of the association Little Home e.V. was enthusiastic about the team’s commitment. Since his founding of the association in 2016, 220 houses have been built throughout Germany and made available to people without a permanent residence. For many of the people who have been given access to one of the houses, the small abode has made a big difference: according to the association, 146 of the 220 Little Home recipients have found permanent housing again, 109 of them a job.
The Little Homes built by the Commerz Real team also have the potential to change a few lives: "With these five Little Homes, an average of 15 homeless people are helped in starting a new life. I would like to thank the helpers from the bottom of my heart for their support," says founder Sven Lüdecke after the Social Day in Wiesbaden.
In total, Commerz Real was able to finance 25 Little Homes this year. Of these, ten were built by the employees in Wiesbaden and Düsseldorf themselves. The Little Homes give local people access to their own safe living space, enabling them to start a new life.
